Music is no stranger in the early childhood classroom.
However, recent guidelines from Head Start and NAEYC recommend inclusion
of musical instruction as part of the early childhood curriculum. These
guidelines ask many teachers to do something they haven't been trained
to do. What music skills are developmentally appropriate for children
ages 3 to 5? How are these skills best taught, and how can their instruction
overlap with and reinforce emergent literacy skill development? How should
these skills be assessed? The stART smART Network Music program addresses
the answers to these questions and more.
Participating teachers learn to create and lead developmentally
appropriate lessons and activities that build children's music skills
in the areas of:
-
Steady Beat
-
Singing
-
High/Low
-
Loud/Quiet
-
Fast/Slow
